Rainbow Flags fly in Norwich

In response to Gay, Lesbian and Bi-Sexual History month Norwich Pride are hosting a months worth of activities.

It has also brought a closer link between Norfolk County Council and the NHS Mental Health Partnership with joint flag raising ceremonies to celebrate the recognition of our GLB  employees.

As well as being a time for celebration, LGBT History Month is also an opportunity to reflect on some more serious issues.

For instance, homophobic crime is one of the highest forms of hate crime reported to Norfolk police.   A very practical reason for us to fly the rainbow flag is that it acknowledges our LGBT residents, and confirms that “We are listening and we are committed to promoting fairness and equality”.

Work on LGBT is a new area for the County Council, but one we want to get right.  We have already begun to put some important building blocks in place.  This includes the launch of our new LGBT staff group in partnership with the Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health Trust.
